Introduction

When I moved to Whitebushes in 1988 I assumed it was a housing estate built on farmland with no real history. I had heard from a friend, who remembered visiting the area as a child, that her grandfather was the gardener at a large house. I wondered if the pond near my house was part of that large house and started looking to see what existed before the houses around Ivydene Close were built. Then a neighbour told me about Jordan Hospital and I realised there was more to the history of Whitebushes than I realised.

This site is what I have found so far and I am still working on researching the history. I have divided the site into four ‘ages’ for convenience, although these are fairly arbitrary divisions.

If you are looking for news, events and activities, as well as information on local services in and around Whitebushes, there is an excellent new website, Help in the Bushes.
